DEPARTMENT OF LIFELONG LEARNING AND EXTENSION
The idea of lifelong learning, though not new, has been an essential and inseparable part of living and working of the individuals, communities and societies of all times to meet their competitive demands and challenges of survival, growth and development in the ever-changing world order. Its growing importance and evolution can be attributed to the inevitable learning that continues as a consequence of growing needs, demands, changes and challenges in social, economic, cultural, political, environmental, technological and other aspects of life.
In Vikas College of Arts, Science & Commerce the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension (DLLE) was established in the year 2010 as an extension ofthe Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension (DLLE) of University of Mumbai (earlier known as Department of Adult and Continuing Education and Extension).
Mission:
‘Reach to the unreached’, to facilitate the sensitization of the student to the socio-cultural realities.
Objectives:
- To prepare students for a greater social commitment
- To enhance student employability skill
- To cater to the needs of the unreached for promoting knowledge-based society
- To inculcate the leadership, entrepreneurship, social awareness and creative skill among students
Under DLLE, there are seven types of extension work projects are being offered by the department under the two different units.
I- Vocational Career Oriented Projects:
- Career Project (CP)
- Anna PurnaYojana Project(APY)
- Information Technology Project
- Industry Orientation Project
II- Community Oriented Projects:
- Population Education Club
- Survey of Women’s Status
- National Institute of Open Schooling
DLLE (2016-2017)
In the year 2016-17 out of these projects, Annapurna project and career project have been undertaken by the students. Under these project students had sold various food and Non-food items during the cultural events organized in the college. Projects were also prepared by the students.

The year end with the grand festival UDAAN: the flight of extension. Our student has been participated in the skit competition and the Poster making competition held at G.N. Khalsa College, GTB Nagar, Mumbai.

DLLE (2022-2023)
The physical routine activities in the College started from the academic year 2022-2023. All routine activities of DLLE slowly started from the current year. College offering extension work projects the students opt for Career Oriented Projects viz. Career project.Its help the students for enhancing the employability and self-reliance.
In the academic year 2022-23, 24 students from SYBAF & SYBA participated in Career Project.

WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CELL & WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Women Empowerment and Gender Equality are the most important requirements for the upliftment and progress of our nation. The Women Development Cell (WDC) in Higher Educational Institutionsprovides a platform to students to voice their concerns about changing gender roles, about societal restrictions, unhealthy mind-sets, legal knowledge and career issues.
In pursuance of the directions of the UGC and in the effort to make Vikas College a strong kernel of gender sensitization, the Women Development Cell (WDC) was constituted in June 2005 under the able convenorship of our Ex-CEO Late Smt. Vidya P. Raut.
Vision:
- To mould and enlighten the young minds and pave their way to grow into balanced and better human beings
Mission:
- To encourage female students to be self-reliant and economically independent
- To instil positive self-esteem and confidence in the female students so that they can take the right decision in and for-their lives
- To spread awareness among the students about the social, legal and constitutional rights of women in order to prevent the exploitation based on gender
- To make females cognizant about different kinds of violence: sexual, physical and mental and to further equip them with the knowledge and strength to fight against them
- To create awareness about the need of gender equality
- To provide equal career opportunities to all the genders
- To eliminate deep rooted beliefs of gender bias and discrimination
Objectives:
- To help building an egalitarian society
- To help female students live a balanced life where they neither lurk into depression nor take the recourse to aggression
- To stress upon the development of women in every sphere
- To organize events and activities for women empowerment
- To create an environment that will help women realize their full potential and give their best
The Cell has both the faculty and students of the College as its members and works with an aim to create a gender sensitized community within campus as well as in the society. It has been organising varied academic, technical, medical, cultural and social events for the upliftment of women and spread the real importance of gender equality in the society through college students.

Truth, Nonviolence, Sarvodaya and Satyagraha and their significance constitute Gandhian philosophy and are the four pillars of Gandhian thought.
Gandhian Studies Centrein colleges is dedicated to awakening and dissemination of Gandhian thought, literature and ideals. Gandhi Studies Centre aims to uphold the ideals of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The Centre explores the relevance of Gandhian ideology in the present world through seminars, workshops, lectures and exhibitions, premised on the conviction that Gandhiji’s philosophy has perennial relevance.
To commemorate the legacy of the Mahatma and conduct special studies on the thoughts, values and actions influenced by Mahatma Gandhi, Gandhian Studies Centre was established in June 2009. In its present form, it was established under the ‘Epoch Making Social Thinkers of India (Special Studies) Scheme’ of the UGC in 2007. The Centre had received financial assistance from the UGC during the XI & partly during XII Plan periods for the activities that were to be carried out during that duration. Thus, the Centre was approved by the UGC and the activities were conducted as per the guidelines of the UGC. Thereafter, the Centre did not receive any grant even though the UGC has continued the Scheme and the approval to the Centre of our College. At present the Centre has been generously patronized by the College Management.
Vision- Committed to propagate and disseminate Gandhian thought amongst different sections of society and to create just and humane society.
- Dedicated to promote social and political ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and his followers through teaching, research and extension.
- To offer suitable courses on Gandhian thought
- To hold lectures, seminars, symposia, workshops, quiz and training programmes of Gandhism and its contemporary relevance
- To sponsor and publish research studies in Gandhism and its contemporary relevance
- To bring out suitable publications to promote Gandhian values
- To celebrate/commemorate the birth and death anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi in meaningful ways
- To network with like-minded organizations in promoting Gandhian values

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES & STUDENTS
Social and cultural activities in Higher Educational Institutions prepare students for real life and strengthen their personal skills. Social/cultural activities in colleges not only help students to identify themselves with the University but also assist students to develop themselves in a desired field and improve skills such as organizational, presentation, leadership and interpersonal communication.
We, at Vikas College, believe in the all-around personality development of students. To achieve this development, the Cultural Committee has been functioning since the inception of the college. Apart from classroom teaching-learning for the dissemination of Knowledge, there is a consistent attempt to provide opportunities for young minds to explore the path of manifestation of their extra-curricular talents.

Mission
To enhance the talents of the students, so that they can show and participate in maximum number in different cultural events/activities/competitions.
Objective

- To bring out the various talents of the students
- To help students acquire new skills that can be applied to their lives
- To provide a platform for budding artists and musicians
- To inculcate team spirit and to account for overall personality development of students
Throughout the academic year, the students participate in various intra-collegiate and inter-collegiate cultural events thus showcasing their talents in areas like performing arts, fine arts, and literary arts. Jallosh, an intra-collegiate annual cultural fest is a medley of such colourful events organized by the Cultural Committee every year.
The Covid-19 pandemic which had brought the social activities to a standstill, could not prevent the committee from providing a canvas for the students for display of their cultural talents. Two academic years during the pandemic witnessed the online manifestation of the students’ cultural talents.
The Personality Contest conducted and judged by the alumni of the college is a special feature of the annual cultural fest, Jallosh.
