ABOUT

The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology offers the Bachelor of Vocation in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Voc. MLT), introduced in the academic year 2014–2015, and the Master of Vocation in Medical Laboratory Technology (M.Voc. MLT), commenced in 2020–2021. These programs are designed to impart ethical values, professional competence, and skill-based education to aspiring medical laboratory technologists.

The B.Voc. MLT program follows a structured progression with multiple entry and exit options: the first year awards a Diploma, the second year an Advanced Diploma, and the third year a Degree. The course was initiated under the National Skill Development Corporation in collaboration with the Healthcare Sector Skill Council, aligning with national occupational standards such as phlebotomy and other skill-based healthcare roles to enhance employment opportunities.

Medical Laboratory Technologists are integral members of the healthcare system, supporting physicians in disease diagnosis, treatment planning, and prevention. Both undergraduate and postgraduate students receive comprehensive professional training in advanced laboratory techniques and the operation of modern equipment across departments such as Haematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Histology and Cytology, Clinical Biochemistry, and Serology. This extensive exposure broadens their employability prospects and encourages entrepreneurial development.

The department has established MoUs with Sir JJ Mahanagar Raktpedhi, Matoshri V.M. Shah Arpan Blood Bank, and Trishala Diagnostic Center to facilitate professional training and industrial visits. Students actively participate in blood donation camps organised across Mumbai, gaining practical exposure and social responsibility experience.

Skill development is further strengthened through practical sessions, lectures, professional training, industrial visits, and active involvement in community healthcare initiatives. The department also organises webinars, seminars, and workshops conducted by experienced healthcare professionals to enhance students’ academic growth, technical proficiency, and employability across diverse healthcare sectors.
