About the Department

The Department of History at Vikas College of Arts, Science & Commerce is dedicated to fostering historical awareness, critical inquiry, and analytical thinking among undergraduate students. The Department offers History as a Major subject in the First Year of the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programme, as per the curriculum prescribed by the University of Mumbai.

History, as a discipline, enables students to understand the evolution of societies, cultures, political systems, and economies across time. Through systematic study of ancient, medieval, and modern periods, the Department encourages students to examine historical processes critically and develop a deeper understanding of contemporary realities in the light of the past.

Programme Offered

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) – History Major

Level: First Year Undergraduate

The curriculum is structured in accordance with the University guidelines and includes foundational courses introducing students to:

  • Ancient Civilizations and Early Societies
  • Medieval Political and Cultural Developments
  • Modern Indian History
  • World History
  • Concepts and Methods in History
  • Understanding Historical Sources

The programme emphasizes both content knowledge and methodological skills.

 Course Outcomes (COs)

Upon successful completion of the First Year History Major, students will be able to:
